CPR / Apply Initial Response First Aid (AIRFA) Training

About the Course

This 3.5 hour course is designed to ensure that students gain the skills and knowledge to apply basic first aid in the resource sector and how to perform CPR.

Our CPR training program aligns to the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. It is appropriate to all those working in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

The course is made up of the following nationally accredited units of competency:

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • RIIERR205D – Apply initial response first aid

Please note, this course is not the 'first aid course' as stipulated in the Code of Practice - First Aid in the Workplace. For First Aiders in the workplace, the relevant course is 'HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid' and should be renewed every 3 years as outlined in this Code of Practice.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for those working in the resources and infrastructure sectors who need the skills to provide an initial first aid response and perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

It is particularly relevant for:

  • Workers on mine and resource sites where Initial Response First Aid is a site requirement.
  • Individuals who may be first responders in emergency situations at work.
  • Employers wanting to ensure their teams meet site compliance obligations.

Please note: this course is not a substitute for HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid as outlined in the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice. For workplace-designated First Aiders, HLTAID011 is the required qualification (to be renewed every 3 years).

Course Description

There are two components to this course:

Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Our CPR course focuses on ensuring that students have the knowledge and skills to confidently perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an unconscious casualty.

Key areas covered by this course include:

  • Recognise an emergency situation
  • Identify and eliminate / minimise danger to self and others
  • Assess the casualty
  • DRS ABCD
  • Recognise the need for CPR
  • Seek assistance
  • Perform CPR
  • Capture and convey incident details
  • Psychological impacts to self and other rescuers
  • Incident response debrief

Apply Initial Response First Aid (AIRFA)

The AIRFA component of this course focuses on ensuring that students have the knowledge and skills to confidently perform initial response first aid. In addition to the key areas covered by CPR, it includes:

  • Legislation relevant to first aid
  • Rescuer obligations
  • First aid kits
  • First aid management of:
    • Bleeding
    • Shock
    • Burns
    • Crush injuries
    • Fractures
    • Soft tissue injuries
    • Snakebite

Course Delivery Options

Training will be conducted by one of our experienced trainer assessors who have industry currency, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.

  • Face to Face – Onsite (at your site / workplace)

Accreditation 

To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the national unit of competency.

All assessments are completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • RIIERR205D – Apply initial response first aid

  • Courses at our facilities: Certificates are issued on the day, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers (if applicable) the following business day.
  • Courses at client sites: Certificates are issued within 7 business days, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers.
