Online Delivery - HSR Training - Health and Safety Representative Training - Workplace Health and Safety Queensland

Please be aware that as at 13 August 2024, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) informed all training providers that the delivery of Online HSR training via connected real time delivery (CRTD) will no longer be allowed.

If students are in a remote or regional location (and there are no RTO's who deliver this course within the the entire region), an exceptional course-by-course application can be submitted to WHSQ for consideration. For an employer group with multiple remote / regional HSR's to be trained, please contact us with a list of student names and their locations. From there, WorkSafe Connect will seek approval from WHSQ (whstraining@oir.qld.gov.au). If approval is granted, please get in touch with us to discuss online course options.

If you have difficulty in finding a local provider and meeting your legislative requirements, we encourage you to contact whstraining@oir.qld.gov.au for further feedback and guidance. Alternatively, our HSR trainers can travel to employer sites throughout Queensland – please get in touch to discuss client-site / face-to-face course options.

The 5-day Health and Safety Representative (HSR) course provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their role as a HSR in Queensland.

With a focus on delivering flexible training options, WorkSafe Connect delivers an online Health and Safety Representative (HSR) course virtually through live video led training (via Zoom). Regardless of your location, as long as you have access to the technology requirements (set out in Course Delivery below) then you are able to take advantage of this delivery method.

Newly appointed HSR’s (from 29 July 2024 onwards) must complete their training within 28 days of their election (the previous period was 3 months).  If a worker chooses not to undertake the training within the time period, they will no longer be eligible to fulfil the role of HSR and will need to be replaced.

WorkSafe Connect has been delivering workplace health and safety training for over 15 years. Our online HSR training focuses on delivering engaging and practical training - all students are engaging with the trainer and other students throughout the course.

The delivery method is also referred to as "CRTD" (Connected Real Time Delivery).

WorkSafe Connect’s Online Training is live, real-time trainer-led delivered in an interactive online environment.

Our online training is the same great learning experience that our face-to-face training is known for, just delivered differently. By way of overview of what our online training involves:

  • They are real-time video-led sessions where our trainer presents to the group and guides the students through the activities and assessments.
  • It is delivered via the Zoom or Microsoft Teams platform, which allows students to interact with the other students as well as the trainer (including break out rooms for group discussions).
  • Students complete their assessments and activities via our online web-based Learner Portal. The trainer marks the assessments throughout the session and assists students who need to reattempt questions that were incorrect.
  • In order to complete the virtual session, students need to have access to a computer or laptop (not a tablet), webcam, headphones and reliable internet.
  • Students complete the course requirements during the session and are issued their certificate soon after if they successfully completed their assessments.

Many participants have commented that they actually prefer this delivery method to traditional face-to-face as we limit our class sizes and there are numerous ways in which to interact within the session.

To participate, participants are required to be connected to the internet via desktop computer or a laptop device with a camera, microphone and headphones. Please see the Course Delivery section for full details of what you require.

If you would like to discuss delivery options in more detail, then please get in contact with us and we would be more than happy to discuss your requirements and options with you.
