Online Site Safety Supervisor / Site Safety & Health Representative
WorkSafe Connect’s Online Site Supervisor course (2-days x 4-competencies) is a trainer-supported program that is delivered online (via Zoom in an electronic classroom). It is an interactive and activity-based program, using real-world scenarios, that provides students practical knowledge and skills relating to risk management, effective communication and incident investigations.
The 2-day program is structured as follows:
There are no course entry requirements, no pre-course study and no post-course evidence to provide.
With the support of our expert trainers who have supervisory experience within relevant industries, students who successfully complete the online 2-day program will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the following 4 units of competency:
Under Queensland Legislation, Site Supervisors and Site Safety Health Representatives (SSHR) are statutory positions. The Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee has deemed it a requirement to hold 3 units of competency (S123 / G189) for these roles.
WorkSafe Connect’s online 2-day program also includes G2 (RIIRIS402E Carry out the Risk Management Process) - based on industry consultation and student feedback, we believe the inclusion of the G2 elements of consultation, facilitation & auditing practices enhances and completes the risk management process.
The G2 unit of competency is included in the first ‘Risk Management’ module – this is a ‘bonus’ and does not extend the course duration or cost.
WorkSafe Connect has been delivering mining safety programs for over 15 years and is one of Queensland’s leading suppliers of the Site Supervisor programs. We look forward to supporting our students to achieve their accreditation.

It is relevant to all industries – including coal mining, metalliferous mining, quarrying, manufacturing, construction and general industry.
For those in Queensland in the mining industry who are appointed to the role of either a supervisor or health and safety representative, it is a legislative requirement that they hold the S123 / G189 units of competency as required by the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee.
For those who are refreshing their accreditation (which is required every 5 years) – see our 1-day S123 / G189 Refresher program – click here.

If you have any questions about the Site Supervisor course and whether it is suitable for you, please get in touch with a member of the WorkSafe Connect team today.
There is no pre-course study or post-course requirements.
Students must have a basic level of computer skills - this ensures the course runs to time and the focus is on the course content rather than computer skills training.

If you book and pay for the course via our website and it is determined you are not suitable for the virtual course delivery, you will be offered the face-to-face program. Alternatively, you may also request a refund prior to course commencement.
S123 is a mandated requirement for Site Supervisors and Site Safety Health Representatives (SSHR) in Queensland's Resources Industry.
The course consists of 3 nationally accredited competencies that the Safety and Health Advisory Committees for Queensland's resource sector have identified that these statutory roles need to hold.
The competencies included are as follows:
The Site Senior Executive (SSE) cannot appoint a person to either of these roles without the person holding these competencies.
The Safety and Health Advisory Committees for Queensland's resource sector requires site supervisors and site safety health representatives (SSHR) hold the S123 Site Supervisor qualification.
This course has been known by other names and depending on the industry it may be referred to as G1, G8, G9 or QMS.
Yes, you can.
WorkSafe Connect does offer Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) as an option for students. You will be required to provide evidence of currency, competency and to satisfy the units of competency criteria.
This process can often take longer and be more expensive than the 1-day refresher training course, however we are always more than happy to talk through what option might be best for you.
Please contact WorkSafe Connect to discuss this option in more detail.
Your S123 (QMS) Site Supervisor qualification must be refreshed every 5 years under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation.
Sites outside of coal mining may factor the refresher into their training scheme / standard and we suggest that you check with the site's training department to ensure that you are aware of their specific refresher requirements.
